Love in the time of Covid

Posted 3/24/2020 10:40am by Shiloh Avery.

I know there is a balance between informed action and crazy.  Finding and maintaining that balance has nearly become my full time job during what is arguably the craziest part of our lives (so far).  Too much news can lead to feeling as if I’m living in one of my young adult dystopian fiction novels (and I am not the hero!) which can lead to drowning.  Not enough news can lead to ignorance and resistance to the changes that are coming forth which also surely leads to drowning.

But there is a balance. While normal has been upended, lives disrupted, and future uncertain at best, I am also seeing love.  I am seeing the local communities band together (at a distance) to support their local businesses and their out-of-work employees.  I am seeing creative adaptations and support. I am seeing people in critical roles working non-stop to keep their communities supplied and healthy.

So no, while we may be experiencing some parts of a dystopian novel, at least it is not a Cormac McCarthy novel.  We have not all turned into self-serving cannibals and gangs.  We are doing our best to take care of each other in ever more creative (and physically distant and sanitized) ways. There is love in the time of Covid.

So I guess we’ll have to forgo the hugs in national “hug your farmers” day, but we could use your support in other ways. Thank you to everyone who has joined us here at Tumbling Shoals Farm in our efforts to keep our community fed healthy organic foods during this pandemic and hopefully beyond.  If you haven’t joined us yet, we are asking that you consider you to consider purchasing a harvest share.

You can sign up here: http://www.harvie.farm/signup/tumbling-shoals-farm and you can find more information here.

Here's how it works: you sign up and pay for your share now (at least in some part-no need to pay it all at once, although there are benefits to that), set your veggie preferences, and then start receiving a box of the freshest, most delicious, custom harvested and packed veggies beginning in May all the way to mid September!  Our harvest share is now fully customizable so you only get veggies you love (and you're more likely to eat them).  Going on vacation? No problem, put your share on vacation hold.

Want to help keep Tumbling Shoals Farm in existence but just can't commit to a full season?  No worries, this year, we'll have an option to sign up for our virtual Farm Stand.  By signing up for Farm Stand, you'll still set your veggie likes/dislikes, and the you'be put on a list. Whenever we have extra produce available, we'll let you know through email and you can purchase a share (or not) whenever our supplies and your desires match up!  You an pre-register for the notifications here: https://www.harvie.farm/farm-stand/tumbling-shoals-farm

We'll still deliver to those convenient locations just like you were a full time member.  Now, because it's difficult to plan for add on members and because we're much less likely to get our boxes returned, there is a small extra charge per box, so it's a way better deal to become a harvest share member, but I just wanted you to know that this option will become available.  The option is not there yet, but I wanted you to know about it in case you're considering your options.
