Well hey if it isn't June

Gentle cool rain

June.  Named after Juno, the Roman goddess of childbirth and fertility.  The weeds that escaped our hoes in April and early May have all grown up and are having children of their own now.  Usually, June rolls in on a saucy heat wave, announcing her presence like a child demanding your attention, stamping her feet and screaming “Look at me! Look at me!  Look at me!”

But Juno was evidently distracted by the pandemic, because June just sort of slid into the raucous party through an already open door and sat down.  I hardly even recognized her.  Sweatshirts in the mornings and evenings, no desperate popsicle breaks, breezy, sunny skies--even the squash seems to be confused and isn’t growing so fast. A subtle and perfect June will have us all complacent and unprepared for that blast of July that is sure to come, but since there’s nothing we can do about that, let’s just enjoy the sweatshirts while we wait.

Here's what we we're harvesting this week:

Baby lettuce salad mix: $3.50/5-oz compostable container

Radishes: $2.75/bunch

Rainbow Chard: $3/bunch

Kale: $3/bunch

Carrots: $4.95/bunch

Blueberries: $6.95/pint

Cucumbers: $2.95/pound (extremely limited for hopefully just this last week until the field cucumbers begin producing)

Tomatoes (Cherokee Purple or Beefsteak): $3.45/pound

Zephyr Squash: $2.25/lb

Zucchini: $2.25/lb

Scallions: $2/bunch

Dill: $2/bunch

Cilantro: $2/bunch

We'll be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market in Building A 8am-1pm and at the Downtown Hickory Farmers Market 330 Main Ave NW  Wednesday 10am-2pm and Saturday 8am-1pm, and the Watauga County Farmers Market in Boone 8-noon.

Due to the high volume of emails, texts, and phone calls, facebook and Instagram messages, we are no longer able to accept orders through those avenues.  I can no longer keep up in a timely manner and so I end up missing some.  In order to facilitate better organization and flow on the farm so that fewer things fall through the cracks (and Shiloh maintains her sanity), we are asking that everyone wishing to place a pre-order go through our virtual farm stand: https://www.harvie.farm/farm-stand/tumbling-shoals-farm

Ordering for Saturday pick-ups happen from Sunday-Wednesday 7pm.  Ordering for Wednesday pick-ups happen from the Thursday-Sunday 11am.

If you’ve never ordered through our system before, check out this tutorial (it’s not like a square store): http://tumblingshoalsfarm.com/how-virtual-farm-stand-works
