Experience:

• At least one season of commercial farm experience is preferred, but some demonstration of ability to do outside
  physical labor is a must. Familiarity with farm tools and equipment is a plus. Knowledge of safe food handling
  procedures desired.

Goals:

• Tumbling Shoals Farm is a fun, fast-paced work environment. Primary duties of the assistant grower will be harvesting, washing, and packing produce for our expanding CSA and 4 farmers markets. The assistant grower will also work as part of a team to help bring our new orchard into production and to grow, harvest, and sell top-quality, organic produce.

Responsibilities:

• Harvest, wash, and pack efficiently as part of a team, including packing customized CSA boxes
• Ensure produce quality and safety by following food safety protocols
• Maintain records
• General vegetable and orchard production tasks including planting and cultivation of a wide variety of vegetable
  and fruit crops

General skills & abilities:

• Team player (we don’t call it the “farmily” for nothing!)
• Understanding of body mechanics and efficiency

Requirements:

• Able to bend, crouch, squat, kneel, and stand for long periods of time
• Able to lift 30-40 lbs consistently, 50 lbs frequently
• Able to use hands for fast fine motor movements with plants, tools, rubber bands, etc.
• Able to effectively communicate—this is key to a small farm
• Able to recognize gaps in knowledge, skills, and experience and seeks feedback and assistance when appropriate

Compensation and time commitment:

• Positions are full-time, 40-hour per week. New employees begin at $16.50 per hour.
• Benefits include a paid vacation, sick leave, and all the organic veggies you can eat.
• Positions begin as early as February 1 and continue through the end of September.
• We are adding positions throughout the season, so flexible start and end dates are a possibility depending upon your availability.
• Longer season/year-round employment may be a possibility if suitable.
